High Intensity Focused Ultrasound
HIFU: Is the new generation non-invasive treatment for skin lifting and tightening.
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) uses an acoustic lens to concentrate multiple intersecting beams of acoustic wave on a target. Each individual beam passes through tissue with little effect but at the focal point where the beams converge, the energy can have useful thermal or mechanical effects. Using macro & micro focused ultrasound; the high energy is delivered with exact precision in order to produce positive clinical outcomes to deliver high peak power with less pain.
Ultrasound to Tighten and Lift Skin
HIFU is currently one of the most sought after and effective treatment for skin lifting in Singapore. Without causing damage to the skin and its surrounding tissues, it creates selective thermal coagulative zones on the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) layer to improve skin laxity and reduce fat cells.
Temperature of the treatment can reach 60 to 70 degrees Celsius without damaging the skin surface. Over the healing process in the next 2 to 3 months, a gradual skin lifting effect can be observed.
How Does HIFU Work
When electrical energy is transferred to the HIFU transducer, it transforms into ultrasonic waves. When the ultrasound is focused, it generates thermal energy at maximal focal point targeted at the deep adipose tissue and muscles.
It kickstarts the process of thermal coagulation to the SMAS, fascia, deep dermis, and subcutaneous fibrous tissues. During the next few months, skin tightening and rejuvenation occur gradually.
How Long Does It Take To See Results
Collagen remodelling takes about 10 to 13 weeks to significantly reduce the fine lines and improve the overall appearance of the face. The dermis will also strengthen, creating a younger-looking, tighter skin.
Only one session is required to see visible skin lifting result which can last for as long as 12 months.
Who Is A Suitable Candidate For HIFU Skin Lifting Treatment
This treatment provides the best result for older people with moderate skin laxity with facial fat. However, people under the age of 40 who wish to take preventive measures to stimulate collagen production in the skin and strengthen the dermis to delay the onset of aging are also suitable for the HIFU treatment.
Downtime and Side Effects
HIFU treatment is a safe treatment because it does not break the skin. Furthermore, no foreign body is introduced into the body.
However during the treatment, the skin that comes in contact with the transducer will be heated to a consistent temperature of 60-70 degrees Celcius throughout the treatment. Immediately after the treatment, the skin may appear red or flushed but it should subside within a few hours.
While HIFU does not replace a surgical facelift, it is a very popular skin lifting treatment option in Singapore because many people are unwilling to undergo a non-essential cosmetic surgery.

Other uses of HIFU
1. Weight Loss
The vacuum creates a low atmospheric pressure, increasing the blood supply and circulation to the cellulite and fat prone areas of the lower body. Thanks to this increase in blood circulation, fats can be transported from fat cells into the working muscles where they can be burnt off. This increased supply of blood, nutrition and oxygen to the lower body, while exercising the muscles, results in higher metabolism, cell activity and faster fat burning.
2. Cellulite Reduction
The sub-atmospheric pressure, created by the vacuum, not only activates the metabolism of fats, but also the lymphatic system, which ensures better removal of metabolic waste products. Stronger blood circulation to the skin and an enriched supply of oxygen, vitamins, minerals and enzymes acts positively against orange peel skin.
